Gathering of a Horde

Regional Goblin Gatherers are forming a Horde under the Orc Shaman Zorkar. Zorkar has plundered a few small way stations and now has set his sights on Ashton. Crushing this village will win more Ogres, Orcs, and Goblins to his Horde.

There are representatives from the Skullcrusher Ogres, Broken Tusk Orcs, and Broken Wing Goblins. [need to figure out how to work them in – perhaps they are part of the challenge]

Advance Scouts.

Our heroes out on patrol. For a short time, they have to cross Ursala’s territory (a nice time to foreshadow Rampaging Bear adventure). They come across a rather bloody scene – a mangled and masticated goblin. There is also a blood trail that leads out of her territory.

A simple Tracking or Notice with a Raise allows the PCs to follow (or make it easy on them). It leads to a rocky outcropping with a cave. The scouts are pretty smart. They have trapped the approaches along the edge. Coming up the open area of course is an auto-notice by the orc on guard duty.

Do a mini-cut scene after the trap goes off. There is a goblin that is in charge is patterned after Mugsy. He is called Bugsy. “Gig’s up, see. Go check it out Grundy.” Grundy is like Lennie (of Mice and Men). “Oh, I want one as a pet. I will squeeze him, and hold, him, and pet him. But first, I have to Bonk him!”

Have the PCs do a notice check. Success = can react if the bolder is thrown at them (recommend prone). The throw is at -2 due to range.

Will Stealth and try to get the Drop if the PCs make it to the cave

After fight. Bugsy is a bit harder to get information out of. But a test of wills/persuasion will work. Grundy is easier. He can be tricked into to tell the group. He will say “No, I am not supposed to tell you anything.” So long as Bugsy is able to talk to him, he will not spill the beans. If no Bugsy, then the PCs can get the information by simply asking what he is not supposed to tell the group. “I am not supposed to tell you that a horde is forming and will attack Ashton in 2 days….”
